You’re trusted to power the places people work and do it cost-effectively. Run uninterrupted power and reduce operating expenses with new gas generator sets. Available in 100-150 kW, the models are powered with natural gas, a lower emission-producing alternative to diesel fuel.
Generate dependable power during outages or non-emergency situations. Cat® gas generator sets have unlimited run time, as long as the natural gas supply is sufficient, and come with a 24-hour propane tank for added protection in the event the fuel supply is interrupted.
Because they are not limited to emergency situations, the new models offer opportunities to participate in demand-response programs, where available. Demand-response programs, offered by utilities, compensate large energy users for producing extra power during high electricity consumption, such as during extremely hot or cold weather or after work and school hours. Utilities pay users in demand-response programs for generating extra power during peak demand times and exporting it to the grid.
The Cat Active Management Platform (AMP), a proven distributed energy resource management system (DERMS) platform, helps customers monitor, manage, and monetize gaseous generator sets and other Cat power solutions. It can be applied with other distributed energy resource (DER) system components, including Cat PVC Photovoltaic Modules and Cat Energy Storage Solutions, and it can also manage customer load reductions. The platform monitors patterns from the grid and client facilities, analyzes opportunities in energy markets, and then dispatches DERs to maximize return and monetize results without disrupting normal business operations.
The assets are designed to use natural gas as the primary fuel. However, some models are available with the capability to automatically switch over and run on a backup propane tank if natural gas is not an option, due to a natural disaster or other interruption. Gensets with dual-fuel capabilities can detect a lack of pressure on the natural gas line and will use a valve to automatically convert to the propane gas line and switch back to natural gas usage when the pressure returns.
Fuel requirements change. Your gensets shouldn’t. The dual-fuel changeover feature not only helps users prepare for any potential disruptions to the natural gas supply, but also supports readiness for changing fuel requirements as governmental emissions regulations evolve.
The natural gas generator sets not only offer prime and standby power, but also produce less emissions than diesel generator sets.
Fuel automatic change-over capabilities and microgrid compatibility make the generator sets a flexible way to power a wide range of applications. Incorporating a gas generator set into a hybrid microgrid with intermittent renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar, guard against outages due to changing grid conditions and severe weather events.
Have peace of mind with remote asset monitoring (RAM) made possible with Cat Connect hardware, the unmatched support of the global dealer network, and the ability to add optional factory-installed steel or aluminum enclosures for security, easy access, and protection from the elements. The generator sets include Caterpillar’s standard two-year warranty for standby power solutions with a suite of additional extended service coverage options available.
With their ability to run on a wide range of gaseous fuels, Cat gas generator sets provide enterprise owners with the benefits of natural gas across a range of power outputs and applications in the water treatment and small commercial business sectors. The natural gas generator sets are compatible with NFPA 110 Level 1 Type 10, and they are UL 2200 listed.
