Jaus Neigum from Canada proved himself the best of the best after taking on three tough challenges and eight other finalists at the Global Operator Challenge, held at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2020.
On March 10, nine of the world’s most talented equipment operators gathered in Las Vegas for the Cat® Global Operator Challenge Finals — an epic conclusion to a competition that began with more than 10,000 entrants from 30 countries taking part in local dealer events.
In the end, it was Jaus Neigum from Canada who emerged victorious after a tough test of skill and determination. Putting his remarkable loading and trenching talents to work, he won both the Load and Carry Challenge and the Trenching Challenge. He completed all challenges with an amazingly low combined time of only 16 minutes and 28 seconds.
Following closely behind Neigum were second-place finisher Thomas Murphy from Irelandand third-place finisher Sebastian Behr from Germany. Both displayed impressive speed, accuracy and overall operating best practices over the course of this hard-fought competition — as did all the finalists.
-Jaus Neigum, Global Operator Challenge Champion
Each of the three challenges put the skills of the world’s best operators to the test. These three finalists deserve a round of applause for achieving the best time in an individual challenge:
Operators used a Cat wheel loader with Production Measurement technology to load and move material through specified points in a course.
WINNER:
Jaus Neigum from Canada
TIME:
3 minutes and 1 second
Operators used a Cat mini excavator to “tee off”
a golf ball, navigate a course and place the golf ball
in the hole.
WINNER:
Thomas Murphy from Ireland
TIME:
4 minutes and 16 seconds
Operators dug a trench using a Cat excavator
and Grade with 2D technology.
WINNER:
Jaus Neigum from Canada
TIME:
6 minutes and 48 seconds
They began with local competitions at Cat dealerships around the world. After defeating their peers at the local level, they moved on to regional competitions where they crushed even tougher challengers to break through to the final competition in Las Vegas.
