Houston, Texas – Caterpillar Oil & Gas is proud to announce the 30th anniversary of the Cat® G3600 engine for gas compression. Launched in 1991, the legendary G3600 platform is proven in the industry and has withstood the most challenging natural gas application conditions. Technology upgrades have advanced the product throughout the years, making operations easier and more efficient. This year, Caterpillar celebrates the platform by launching a new campaign highlighting the engine over the past three decades and shares news about future additions to the gas compression portfolio.
“As we continue developing and celebrating the G3600, we also never lose sight of our early beginnings for this product line. The G3600 model was introduced 30 years ago, followed by facility expansions for the engine in 1992, which further supported industry demand. To this day, the engine maintains the same displacement, which is a testament to the strength of the core iron and its engineering and technology,” said Todd Krueckeberg, Caterpillar Americas Sales & Service Region Manager.
Today, with more than 8,000 engines worldwide, the G3600 family alone has logged over 350 million operating hours. Over the years, product enhancements and services for the G3600 model include increased fuel flexibility, significantly reduced exhaust emissions, the start of the G3600 Commissioning Certification Program in 2012, the introduction of ADEM™ 4 (‘A4’) for G3600 in 2015, and higher power density models.
“Because of engines such as the G3600, people worldwide benefit from heated homes, affordable electricity, and the ability to cook on a gas stove every day. This year we are delighted to highlight the engine and the designers' original vision to create a powerful product that has stood the test of time and the most challenging oilfield applications,” commented Krueckeberg.
