Caterpillar inland waterway solutions to be featured at 2017 inland marine expo

St. Louis, MO – Caterpillar will be in attendance at the 2017 Inland Marine Expo (IMX), the annual tradeshow for the inland and intercostal marine transportation industry, to be held May 22 – 24 in St. Louis, MO. Caterpillar’s comprehensive solutions to the inland waterway will bring Caterpillar Marine, EMD Power Products, a division of Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company and Caterpillar Industry Solutions demonstrate Caterpillar’s commitment to the industry.

"Caterpillar is proud to be an advocate for America's towboat and barge industry supporting the safest, most environmentally friendly and cost-efficient mode of cargo transportation," said Jim Mundth inland waterway segment manager for Caterpillar Marine. “Caterpillar is offering solutions that enhance our waterways infrastructure, sustainability, system reliability and efficiency."

Caterpillar’s focus at this year’s show will be on solutions across the entire value chain. Caterpillar offerings to the inland waterway industry include products and services for the tug and barge marine transportation industry as well as the terminal operations along our river systems.

“Caterpillar is committed to our customers proudly serving within this industry segment to maintain the United States economic competitiveness and national security,” said Janet Kirkton, dredging industry steward for Caterpillar.

A few of the signature solutions showcased in the Caterpillar booth will include:

Cave Automatic Virtual Environment (CAVE)

The Caterpillar CAVE 3D immersive technology allows customers to experience an inland river towboat as if they were operating it in real time.  “By donning a special pair of 3D glasses, visitors at the Caterpillar booth will be able naturally interact with a virtual world,” said Jerry West, Marketing Specialist for EMD Power Products.

EPA Tier 4 Signature Solutions

The marine-specific solution designed by Caterpillar includes Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) technology to meet Tier 4 Final emission standards. SCR works by injecting urea into the exhaust stream, a catalyst helps convert nitrogen oxide into harmless diatomic nitrogen carbon dioxide and water vapor. The Caterpillar SCR technology is a closed-loop system that senses where the engine is in its operating range and adjusts appropriately, reducing consumption. Caterpillar's integrated SCR solution provides proven reliability with lowest total cost of ownership.
