Caterpillar Introduces Cat® Valves and Seats for Well Stimulation Pump Fluid Ends

Houston, Texas – Caterpillar is pleased to announce the release of Cat® Valves and Seats for well stimulation pump fluid ends at the 2015 Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, Texas. Cat 4-series and 5-series valves and seats are designed to maximize interchangeability across the Cat well stimulation fluid end line and be dimensionally compatible with industry standard fluid ends in the 2000-3000 horsepower range. Caterpillar currently manufacturers a comprehensive line of pressure pumps with maximum inputs ranging from 600 bhp to 3000 bhp. The new valves and seats are available now to order from the global Cat dealer network.

Fluid end valves and seats are highly-consumed parts in well stimulation operations and as a result, replacement of these components occurs frequently. Historically, Caterpillar utilized valves and seats obtained from alternate sources. After a substantial amount of research and development goals focused on decreased wear and extended life, Caterpillar has developed a complete Cat line of valves and seats engineered to deliver key differentiating factors to pressure pumping customers.

“The key benefit Cat valves and seats provide customers with is an increased life through advanced design,” Shaun Boller, Caterpillar Oil & Gas pressure pumping specialist noted. “Cat valves and seats work as a system to sustain extended periods of operation between valve and seat exchanges. Initial field testing has shown Cat one-piece valves with injected inserts offer two to three times the service life of standard designs, with potential to re-use the seats for service.”

The material life of the fluid ends is extended by optimizing the geometry of the Cat valve and seat, increasing the contact area and improving the distribution of forces, resulting in reduced material fatigue. The flow area is increased by balancing the pressure drop across the Cat valves, reducing flow restrictions and the potential for cavitation. Additionally, impact forces are reduced as the contact area between valve and seat has nearly doubled from designs utilized in the past. The new Cat valves and seats are supported through the Cat dealer network operating in every time zone.
