Portland, Oregon – Caterpillar Marine is proud to announce a collaboration on a new project, for the next generation of Brusco Tug and Barge’s new tugs, built by Diversified Marine Inc., and equipped with Cat® marine solutions pack ages. The first tug for this project was delivered late last year, and the second vessel will be under construction soon.
Designed by Robert Allan LTD., the new tug is a RAmpart 2500 design and has a scantling measuring 80 ft. by 40 ft. At full power, the tug measures a bollard pull of 84 short tons. Additionally, it is powered with U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final certified Cat 3516E propulsion engines (2240 kW at 1800 rpm), Cat C7.1 generator sets (118 ekw), and MTA 627 azimuth thrusters with 2.7 m propellers. With a full system package from Caterpillar Marine and the exceptional boat building capabilities of Diversified Marine Inc., this boat is expected to be a class-leading tug.
“This vessel will change the escort tug industry, as currently, no other tug in service has the dynamic thrust and force that Caterpillar is providing in such a small footprint as this tug. With the world’s fleet needs, this tug will be able to maneuver between vessels and piers with its substantially decreased turning radius,” said Enrique Aponte, Caterpillar Marine territory sales manager for the West Coast, U.S.
The industry is growing with an increasing demand for power and efficiency. To meet that need, the Cat full system package was selected to optimize the propeller for optimal bollard pull and maneuverability. “The end customer will also benefit from Caterpillar’s world-leading product support capabilities and coverage, as this tug operates in different locations,” said Aponte.
Caterpillar Marine and the supporting Cat dealers, NC Power Systems and Peterson, will continue to work with the customer to maintain the continued success of the solutions installed. To learn more about Caterpillar Marine’s solutions and propulsion systems, visit online at cat.com/marine.
