New Cat® C280 Upgrade Program Supports Customers with Improved Efficiency and Increased Mission-readiness
October 2022
Houston, Texas – Following the launch of the Cat® C280-16 propulsion engine, Caterpillar Marine has announced the release of the new C280-12 engine for Governmental and Defense applications. With a new power increase of up to 10% on the C280-12 and up to 6% on the C280-16, this upgrade program offers renewed support for customers’ emerging operational and power needs. Both the C280-12 and C280-16 models provide better power to weight, improved efficiency, a reduction in visible emissions, and increased reliability.
"We are excited to bring the new C280 into the global Governmental and Defense industry. The program clearly demonstrates our ambition to continue to provide expanded solutions into the toughest applications - Frigates, Corvettes, and Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs),” comments Caterpillar Marine Global Segment Manager Governmental, Leif Gross.
The new C280 supports the existing solution range and features several product enhancements including an improved power density (6,000hp and 8,000hp ratings) and new performance iron providing a reduction in visible smoke achieved through better combustion efficiency. Both the C280-12 and 16 models comply with IMO II emission regulations.
“Throughout the years, we have been walking beside our customers to understand their needs to provide solutions that benefit their operations. Our products continuously help the Navies to be mission-ready whenever they are called for duty. With over 90 years of experience in the industry, our global dealer network and teams offer services capabilities tailored for the most demanding jobs in the world,” comments Gross.
Additionally, Caterpillar Marine has updated the product portfolio to better support the global governmental and defense segment with the release of the C32B and 3516E.
