Caterpillar Oil & Gas To Showcase New Well Stimulation Solutions At CIPPE 2019

For Worldwide Release: Mar 2019

Beijing, China – Caterpillar Oil and Gas is pleased to participate at the 2019 China International Petroleum & Petrochemical Technology & Equipment Exhibition (CIPPE) to be held on Wednesday, March 27 through Friday, March 29, 2019 in Beijing, China. Caterpillar will exhibit the Cat® 3512E at 3000hp engine with CX48 transmission as a full well stimulation power module. This module meets China’s Non-Road (NR) stage III emission requirements. Caterpillar was the first engine manufacturer (above 560kW) to gain this NR Stage III certification.  Additionally, for the first time, Caterpillar will also demo the EMCP 4.4 for land drilling.

More customers are choosing Caterpillar as their main power source provider for well stimulation. The launch of the Cat 3512E 3,000hp engine and CX48 transmission has been very successful in China since the last CIPPE, with encouraging sales and strong acceptance of Caterpillar solutions for the well stimulation industry. In early 2018, the well stimulation power module was delivered to SANY Petroleum and was fully operated on the 4-axle pressure pumping truck in the Weiyuan shale play late last year. Since then, there are more leading OEMs, including BOMCO and SJ, who have chosen Caterpillar’s light weight, high power density power modules as the main power solution for well stimulation.

Besides Caterpillar’s proven history of strength, durability and reliability, the Cat 3512E and CX48 transmission combination creates the lightest weight power train combined with the highest power rating in its class. In addition, the 3512E engine is embedded with Product Link™, a fleet management solution offered through Cat© Connect.

“With this dedicated well stimulation power module specially developed for China, customers such as BOMCO, SJ and SANY Petroleum, can integrate this compact power package on the 4 axle trucks and still meet the latest GB1589-2016 road vehicle regulation,” said Alan Zhang, China region manager for Caterpillar Oil & Gas.

Throughout the years, Caterpillar has been committed to provide reliable power train solutions and highly competitive products for the well stimulation industry through continued investment in R&D.  “Our experienced team has a deep understanding of the tough pressure pumping operational requirements and customer needs. Caterpillar’s launch of this light weight, compact module has been targeted to meet the requirements of the new regulations with the highest power density engine transmission package available,” said Zhang.

Wu Hanchuan, the senior subject matter expert of Sinopec SJ Petroleum Machinery (“SJ”) said, “Cat 3512E at 3000hp and CX48 engine package has been selected to be installed in SJ’s fleet of newly designed 2500 type Well Stimulation trucks. This will help us to meet the weight and external dimension requirements of GB1589-2016 perfectly. In addition, SJ will work together with Caterpillar to try the Pump Electronic Monitoring System (PEMS) and Product Link™ in these trucks. We can leverage the advanced technology to have a better understanding of these asset’s health through remote monitoring to analyze the data.”
