Caterpillar Sells First Cat® C280 Generator Set into China Offshore Market

Beijing, China - Caterpillar Oil & Gas announced today that Cat® C280-16 offshore generator sets have been selected to power a BT-4000 Light Workover semi-submersible for the Brazilian oil service contractor, Etesco.  Six Cat C280-16 generator sets rated at 5500 ekW (6111 kVA) @ 60 Hz (900 rpm) will power the semi-submersible and it will be built at DSIC Offshore, one of China’s leading turnkey EPC contractors for offshore construction, for delivery in 2016. The milestone sale marks the entrance of the legendary Cat C280 power solution into China offshore market and all six generator sets will be delivered to DSIC Offshore in September 2015.  Cat dealer, WesTrac China Limited, led Caterpillar’s efforts on the project for this major win.

The maximum continuous rating of 5500 ekW positions the Cat C280-16 as the most power dense offshore generator set of its class. A long-standing industry workhorse, the IMO II compliant Cat C280 offers optimized fuel consumption engineered specifically for drilling applications. Manufactured in Lafayette, Indiana, Cat C280 is equipped with   ADEM™ A4 ECM as well as Cat Alarm and Protection System providing customers with enhanced remote monitoring capabilities and an innovative control system to detect potential safety issues. The ease and speed of installation on the rig is increased due to the front-mounted turbocharger and integration of peripheral parts and systems into the package.
