Certified Rebuild - Power Train Testing
Certified Rebuild - Power Train Testing

What sets the Cat® Certified Rebuild Program Apart

Thorough evaluations, automatic replacement of parts that don't meet strict reusability guidelines, reconditioning work typically not included in an overhaul, performance testing and a new Product Identification Number (PIN) that entitles your machine to a like-new standard warranty.

Returning a machine, power train, commercial engine, hydraulic system or key machine component to like-new condition is an extensive process that requires trained professionals, specialized equipment, stringent quality control and access to the latest technical information. Only the global Cat® dealer network is capable of performing highly sophisticated Cat Certified Rebuilds that meet our high standards and your high expectations. Curious just how robust our rebuild process is?

Steps to a like-new machine:

INSPECTION/EVALUATION

First, your dealer performs fluid analysis, completes visual inspections and reviews the machine’s available service history.

COMPLETE DISASSEMBLY

Next up is an extensive inspection of all machine parts and components.

RECONDITIONING

During this step, your dealer completes work not included in a typical machine overhaul. Examples include reconditioning frames, linkage pins, shaft bearings, electronic control modules, software and more.

ENGINEERING UPDATES

Then, components are reconditioned to include the latest engineering designs.

REASSEMBLY

During reassembly, approximately 7,000 parts are replaced with new or remanufactured Cat parts. All critical torques, clearances and pressure settings are maintained, and all wiring is replaced.

PERFORMANCE TESTING

Once your machine is reassembled, testing begins. For the power train, that includes bench testing the engine, fuel system, transmission, torque converter, differential, final drives and radiator. Your dealer also conducts turbocharger boost, stall speed rpm, throttle response, transmission and steering clutch response, and hydraulic and pilot relief valve pressure tests.

REPAINTING

After your machine passes these tests, it’s painted and gets new model identity graphics along with a Cat Certified Rebuild decal.

FINAL INSPECTION

In the next-to-last step, your rebuilt machine receives a new Product Identification Number (PIN), which entitles you to a like-new warranty and optional Equipment Protection Plan coverage.

CUSTOMER EVALUATION

The final step in a Cat Certified Rebuild belongs to you. Your dealer will have you operate the machine in your working environment to ensure you’re completely satisfied with the rebuild.

When you choose a Cat Certified Rebuild, you can be confident in the end result — like-new performance delivered at a fraction of the cost of buying new. And no matter where you go in the world, you’ll find the work completed to a consistent standard of excellence.
