Cat® Machines Cleanup Popular Australian Beach

Just days before a national holiday in Sydney, Australia, a major storm in New South Wales blew more than 20cm of sand from Bondi Beach, forcing the closure of the popular destination. Luckily, Cat® machines were on hand to help.

With tens of thousands of visitors expected at the beach to commemorate Anzac Day (a national day of remembrance), Antqip Contractors quickly went to work restoring Bondi. Cat multi-terrain loaders and excavators moved tonnes of sand – displaced by the high winds – back to where it belonged on the beach.

Even though Antqip was experienced at moving sand with Cat equipment, it was the most sand the company had to deal with on a job, and it was a rush job with Anzac Day approaching. It took three days of cleanup, with the multi terrain loaders scooping the sand into piles and the excavators throwing it over the railings back onto the beach.

Luckily, maintenance was surprisingly simple. “We have to wash the machines down thoroughly and then we spray them down with a light lubricant to prevent problems with the salt,” says Antqip Director Tony Russell. “There would be more issues if they were sitting out in that salt environment for a long time. We also have to make sure we remove all the sand from the tracks on the multi terrain loaders.”

WesTrac, Antqip’s local Cat dealer, provided ongoing support to Antqip with part sales, machine diagnostics and service throughout the project.
