In Australia, 2020 started as a new decade with many challenges. First the devasting brushfires, and soon after, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 is placing immense pressure on the energy sector, with self-isolation and social distancing measures forcing more people online and using power 24/7.
Reliable backup power for critical industries is vital in Australia, especially to combat extremes in weather and the extra pressure it places on the grid. Now, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring a reliable backup generator is in place is more urgent than ever for many businesses.
When it comes to reliability and uninterrupted power supply, it’s vital to have a backup genset from a partner renowned for quality and reliable products, service, and support. Energy Power Systems Australia (EPSA) has installed Cat® backup generators for essential services organizations across Australia that require mission-critical power, including aged care facilities, waste and water treatment plants, hospitals, data centers, telecommunications companies, defense, and financial institutions.
EPSA supports all businesses with reliable emergency power systems
Never more valuable was this type of preparedness than when a Melbourne-based aged care facility suffered a major outage. At the beginning of 2020, EPSA supplied the aged care facility with a Cat DE220 and ATI 400 transfer panel. When the main power went out, the pre-installed Cat DE220 immediately came into service and restored power within seconds to the 110 residents who are all in isolation for COVID-19 protection. The emergency backup power was in continuous operation for 43 hours, with key personnel benefitting from firsthand operational training by EPSA.
Additionally, EPSA has now provided over 270 essential backup power units in Victoria, Australia to the aged care sector and has the immediate capability to help all businesses with standby power.
Supporting customers in any emergency 24/7
When a power failure occurs, its critical to have a partner who can work with authorities and businesses to provide temporary backup power—and fast. To support Tasmania during its 2015 statewide power shortage, EPSA set up two temporary power stations of 35 Cat generators in 28 days and deployed 40 specialized people across multiple disciplines.
EPSA has long supported businesses and people affected by natural disasters with 24/7 backup power generation including: the 2019/2020 bushfires; South Australian businesses during its 2016 statewide blackout; the 2015 Newcastle floods; Cyclone Yasi in Far North Queensland in 2011; and the 2008 Victorian Black Saturday bushfires.
For any outage stemming from energy challenges due to excess power consumption during COVID-19, EPSA can provide thousands of Cat generators for prime power, standby, or emergency support in commercial and residential operations across Australia.
