56 years. 6.5 million miles. Still going strong. Read Dale's story below to see how he accomplished this incredible feat.

Trucking seems to run in some families. Dale Clemmer inherited the gene from his dad, a trucker who taught him to drive at age 16. And once Dale started driving, he rarely stopped.
Early in his career, he worked as a Greyhound bus driver before making the switch to long-haul trucking. As of 2024, Dale’s been driving trucks for a total of 56 years, accruing an astounding 6.5 million miles behind the wheel. That’s equal to more than 13 roundtrip visits to the moon!
Currently employed by DNK Trucking, Dale takes to the road in a 1989 Peterbilt 379 — a truck he’s owned since 1995. It’s powered by a Cat® 3406B 4MG truck engine, which recently topped the three-million-mile mark.
While he hauls mostly commercial goods these days, Dale has transported all kinds of interesting cargo in his million-mile truck over the years. That includes once delivering 46,000 pounds of pennies from the United States Mint in Philadelphia to Louisville, Kentucky. During the Gulf War, he hauled bulletproof Chevrolet Suburbans for the military.
Dale isn't just loyal to his Peterbilt truck and his Cat truck engine. He's also a longtime customer of Vanderlely's Automotive, an independent repair facility that's a trusted member of the Cat trucking community. This partnership allowed him to work closely with Cat dealer Foley Inc. and tap into Cat truck engine support services.
For 40 years, Vanderlely’s has handled all of Dale’s truck engine maintenance, and Dale credits the use of genuine Cat truck engine parts and overhauls with his truck’s long track record of performance.
Dale received his Million Miler certificate and swag at a surprise lunch organized by Chris Hirsch at Foley Inc. The special event gave him a chance to celebrate the three-million-mile mark on his Cat truck engine — and his lengthy trucking career — with his wife and sister as well as members of his “trucking family” at Foley Inc. and Vanderlely’s Automotive.
