Everyday people can be a huge force for change, and that’s what the NALP’s Voices for Healthy Green Spaces initiative hopes to build for the landscaping industry.
John Janes | Landscaping Marketing Manager
Every day across the U.S., landscaping professionals are working hard to make communities healthier, more sustainable and generate business growth, too. But sometimes legislation comes into play that would make that more challenging. That’s where the idea for the National Association of Landscape Professionals’ (NALP) Voices for Healthy Green Spaces initiative took root. We sat down with Lisa Stryker, Vice President of Marketing & Communications at the NALP, to learn more.
The Voices for Healthy Green Spaces initiative is a community of advocates for the landscaping industry. The industry often faces policy changes at all levels, from federal to local, that are based on a lack of knowledge and understanding of how landscaping contributes to healthier environments.
“Voices for Healthy Green Spaces brings people across the country together, from landscaping professionals to community members, who are concerned about these issues and ready to act on them,” said Lisa.
You don’t have to be an NALP member to join – the program is open to everybody.
By getting involved in Voices for Healthy Green Spaces, it gives landscapers the chance to have a voice in policies that will affect their ability to do their jobs. The goal of the program is to help create legislation that is informed by the experts, and who better to help than the people doing the work every day? And when landscapers can do their jobs well, their communities also benefit.
The NALP is aiming to educate initiative members about the policy issues affecting landscapers in their area. Once you sign up, you’ll be alerted to any policy issues that might impact you and you’ll be given easy ways to get involved that often take just the click of a button.
The issues Voices for Healthy Green Spaces is fighting for change depending on current legislation, but some areas of focus now include the switch from gas to electric landscaping equipment, stewarding sustainability, and maintaining a reliable seasonal workforce. As new issues and legislation come up, these can be updated to meet changing needs.
Joining Voices for Healthy Green Spaces is easy – register here and start getting involved today.
