A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ENGINE IDLE REDUCTION SYSTEM
Available as a factory-installed option or as a retrofit on Cat® 3512C and 3512E engines, the Engine Idle Reduction System (EIRS) was developed for one purpose: to decrease your nonproductive idle time. That in turn reduces fuel consumption, working hours and preventive maintenance — lowering your operating costs and boosting your profits.
HOW DOES EIRS WORK?
EIRS stops the engine automatically when it’s not doing any work and when all the systems it’s monitoring (engine, transmission and pump) are within a healthy temperature range. Then, when needed, it automatically restarts the engine — there’s no operator intervention required, no negative impact on your work cycle and no adverse effects on engine or component health.
An integrated engine pre-lube system ensures durability remains high even with increased start/stop activity. The charging system, batteries and battery monitoring system are designed to maintain readiness on the job and minimize fuel consumption between work modes. And EIRS’ digital outputs give you the flexibility to design your preferred safety system with any combination of visual and audible alarms.
WHAT DOES EIRS CONSIST OF?
STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEM: electric starter, high-output alternator and battery sensors
PRE-LUBRICATION SYSTEM: lubricates the engine prior to every crank
CONTROLLER: embedded software that controls the stop/start functionality and annunciates system status and health to drive safety/warning alarms
BATTERIES: high-capacity starting batteries and trailer batteries
ANNUNCIATION SYSTEM: customer-designed and -provided lights and alarms that let operators know when it’s safe to approach the unit

Dynamic Transmission Output Control (DTOC) gives frac rig or cementing trailer operators a tool to achieve consistent, accurate low-flow performance.
