In 1975, Caterpillar made its first sale of 38 pipelayers to China.

In 1978, Caterpillar opened an office in Beijing.

Caterpillar equipment helped with oil exploitation at the Daqing oilfield in early 1970s.

In 1987, Caterpillar worked with 12 state-owned enterprises in China to increase technology support.

In 1992, Caterpillar equipment participated in the pick-up and load at Qingdao Port, one of the world’s important “sea corridors”.

In 1993, about 300 Caterpillar equipment were used in the construction of Three Gorges Dam.

In 1994, Caterpillar established its first manufacturing company in China - Caterpillar (Xuzhou)Ltd.(CXL). CXL manufactures small to large track-type hydraulic excavators and wheel-type hydraulic excavators for global customers.

In the same year, Caterpillar equipment supported the construction of Xiaolangdi Hydro Project on the Yellow River.

In 1996, Caterpillar (China) Investment Co., Ltd. was established in Beijing to support Caterpillar’s growing investment and business in China.

AsiaTrak (Tianjin) Ltd. was established in 1997. This was the first undercarriage facility in Asia to receive an investment from Caterpillar. The company started operations in 1999.

In the 2000s, Caterpillar equipment consistently provided support to the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, a major project to channel water from the Yangtze River to the North to help ease the water shortage in this area.

In addition, Caterpillar supported China’s West-to-East Natural Gas Transmission Project to help transmit natural gas from western to eastern China.

In 2000, Caterpillar Paving Product(Xuzhou) Ltd. was established, mainly producing soil compactors, asphalt compactors, pneumatic compactors and pavers. Products are exported to Asia, Africa, Latin America and Middle East.

Asia Power Systems(Tianjin)Ltd. was established in 2000. It houses the assembly and testing centers as well as supporting services for CAT® and FG Wilson brand power generation products from 6.8 kVA - 2500 kVA.

In December of 2000, the Caterpillar Foundation had its first China program.

In 2004, Caterpillar (China) Financial Leasing Co.(CCFL) was established., It was China’s first captive financial company in the construction machinery industry.

Caterpillar (China) Machinery Components Co., Ltd. was established in 2005, which was the first wholly-owned manufacturing facility in China to produce components.

In 2005, Caterpillar Remanufacturing Services (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. was established, introducing Caterpillar’s advanced remanufacturing concepts to China.

Caterpillar R&D Center (China) was established in 2005 and has grown into the largest comprehensive R&D center outside the US. It’s dedicated to developing competitive products for the customers and clients around the globe.

Caterpillar (Shanghai) Logistics Co., Ltd. was established in 2005 as the first distribution center of Caterpillar in China, serving four China dealers by providing aftermarket parts service to more than 180 dealer stores across China.

Caterpillar (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. was established in 2006 as the major manufacturing base for Caterpillar medium wheel loader and motor grader in Asia Pacific.

In 2007, Caterpillar Wuxi Engine Campus was established in Wuxi, producing CAT® and Perkins branded engines.

In 2008, Caterpillar (Qingzhou) Ltd. became a full acquisition of Caterpillar and today is an important Caterpillar facility supporting fast-growing demand from China and other markets.

In 2010, Caterpillar Tianjin Ltd. was established. The company concentrated on building 3500 series engines and generator sets as Caterpillar’s second largest global 3500 base.

In August 2010, Caterpillar (Suzhou) Logistics Co., Ltd. (CLC) officially opened as part of the global manufacturing parts network of Caterpillar. CLC provides H2K type of materials and other parts to Caterpillar facilities worldwide and to Tier 1 suppliers through centralized purchasing and logistics integration.

Caterpillar (Wujiang) Ltd. was established in 2011 to produce CAT® 300 series standard mini excavators of both 10 tons and below 10 tons.

In 2011, Caterpillar Undercarriage (Xuzhou) Co., Ltd. was established in Xuzhou. Its primary focus is providing undercarriage and parts, such as track groups and track rollers to customers.

Shandong SEM Machinery Co., Ltd became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Caterpillar in 2013. Caterpillar (Qingzhou ) Ltd. produces both SEM and CAT® products.

In 2015, Caterpillar celebrated its 40th anniversary in China.

In 2016, to further enhance the SEM brand, Caterpillar approved the endorsement: SEM - A Caterpillar Brand.

In 2017, Caterpillar celebrated CXL’s production volume of HEX reaching 100,000 units and the sales volume of mini-excavators reaching 20,000 units.

Caterpillar launched its next generation HEX excavator to global customers in China in 2017, opening a new age of “smart construction.”

In 2018, Caterpillar (Qingzhou) Ltd. (formerly Shandong SEM Machinery Co., Ltd) celebrated its 60th anniversary.

In 2018, Caterpillar (China) Investment Co., Ltd, together with its dealers, supported the 45th World Skills Competition held in Shanghai.

In 2018, Caterpillar became the official sponsor of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA).

In 2018, Caterpillar, together with its four dealers in China, launched an all-new two-hour response time services promise.

In 2019, Caterpillar equipment participated in the construction of the Beijing Daxing International Airport. Several CAT diesel generator sets provide back-up power support.

In 2019, Caterpillar launched its eCommerce online digital platform at BICES 2019, offering customers in China after-sales digital solutions.

In 2019, AsiaTrak (Tianjin) celebrated its 20th anniversary.

2020 marks the 10th anniversary of the Caterpillar Foundation’s support to the China Environmental Protection Foundation's Charity Forest. As of July 2020, the Charity Forest has planted more than 400,000 trees in China with an annual carbon storage of more than 50,000 tons and annual oxygen release of more than 10,000 tons. It also provides 7,800 working hours every year to villagers nearby.

In 2020, Caterpillar celebrated its 95th birthday and 45th anniversary in China.
