BANDIT INDUSTRIES, INC. – MATCHING POWER AND PERFORMANCE

PRODUCING A WIDE ARRAY OF STRONG, DEPENDABLE MACHINES

In 1983, Mike Morey Sr. and six employees built the first Brush Bandit chipper in a small Central Michigan warehouse. Today, Morey’s early innovations have evolved into an employee-owned company that is a worldwide leader in the production of chippers and grinders. Bandit Industries, Inc., currently employs over 400 people in Michigan manufacturing facilities that sprawl over more than 280,000 square feet. The company’s global dealer network encompasses over 200 locations and serves customers in 56 countries.

Bandit runs on the belief that strong, dependable equipment translates to a strong bottom line. Hundreds of skilled Bandit engineers, designers, fabricators and tradesmen combine state-of-the-art manufacturing technology with traditional hand assembly and extensive welded construction to build every Bandit machine. This hands-on manufacturing approach is why Bandit products have such an exceptional reputation for longevity, reliability and resale value.

Throughout its history, Bandit has built over 60,000 machines for customers around the world in a range of industries, including tree care, logging, land clearing, recycling, biomass and rental markets. The company produces more than 50 products, including hand-fed chippers, stump grinders, whole tree chippers, The Beast horizontal grinders, track carriers and skid steer attachments, all powered by Cat® Industrial Engines.

Bandit has always depended on Cat engines to power its equipment. In fact, the company has had a long and mutually beneficial partnership with Michigan Cat dating back to the beginning of Bandit Industries in 1983. “Cat engines ensure that Bandit machines offer superior uptime, a low cost of ownership and great power density, all backed by the largest dealer network in the world with unsurpassed access to parts and service,” says Craig Davis, Head of Sales for Bandit.

“We also like the fact that we can specify the wide range of engines we need from one source,” he says. “The Cat engine product line offers all the horsepower ratings required to fit our Bandit equipment.” For example, Bandit’s Forestry Equipment product lineup utilizes the complete spectrum of Cat Industrial Engines, from C2.2 to C32.

Whenever a new product is in development, Michigan Cat’s engineering team works in conjunction with Bandit’s engineers to determine the necessary engine options and then design a custom package. “The evolution is straightforward and seamless. This makes the process of designing a new product much easier,” Davis states.

He says his company also appreciates the fact that Caterpillar offers engines that meet U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final emissions standards. “These advanced engines have improved the performance of Bandit equipment by offering the best power density in the industry, along with low total fluid consumption and a lower cost of ownership,” Davis says.

“With all of these advantages, Cat engines definitely add value to the equipment we sell,” he adds, “and that makes our company more competitive. Customers know that Caterpillar is the leader in the design and manufacturing of industrial engines. When a customer learns that one of our products is powered by a Cat engine, there are typically no questions regarding the engine. That allows our products to stand out for their unique features and benefits.”

“CAT ENGINES DEFINITELY ADD VALUE TO THE EQUIPMENT WE SELL, AND THAT MAKES OUR COMPANY MORE COMPETITIVE.”
